choco

Today, I have slurped up so many m&m's I think I might be sick.

Ugh.

I have about 15 left on my desk. The biggest dilemma in the world right now, for me, is whether to eat them or not. Is it weird that I *do* really want to eat them?

I just ate one. It was a red one. You can't leave the red ones behind.

Ugh.

sesame

okay, so i have a weird relationship with sesame seeds, and i just put it together.

the sesame cracker things in snack mix? HATE IT.
the chinese sesame/wheat germ bits from trader joes? LOVE IT.
sesame hamburger buns? HATE IT.
sesame on sushi? LOVE IT

i am racist against american sesame products.

also, where the fuck does a sesame seed come from in the first place? i should look this up.

charm

Well, the third time must have been the charm, because that was my third post in a row about eating and food. Now do you realize why I run? hahaha.

oink

Today I have eaten:

Peach (no frosting, I promise)
Maple Donut
Chocolate eclair, with 75% of the chocolate cream inside scooped out
Small salad with viniagrette
1 medium pile of french fries
1 burrito with lettuce, pico de gallo, and steak (so no cheese or extra condiments; just those things with the tortilla)
Small cup of coffee
5 glasses of water
1 coke

Guess I should probably skip dinner. Yikes.

sweet

When I bake cakes or cupcakes, I make my own frosting about 60% of the time. I always have leftover frosting. Well, I have about five little containers of leftover frosting in my fridge right now, a variety of flavors (chocolate buttercream, chocolate cream cheese, cream cheese, vanilla buttercream, and white frosting).

Well, I have devised the best way possible of eating this up without having to bake a batch of cupcakes or a cake: dice up fruit, preferably peaches (altho I am adding in a banana this morning) and then dip fruit into frosting.

YUM.

Now, I do realize this is terrible for you, so I will only allow this to happen once a week for the next five weeks. But goddamn. It's delicious. And wonderful. Wonderfully delicious, you might say.

eat

I think one of the reasons I run so much is that I eat so much. I'm not kidding. I love food. I live to eat.

Was talking with W the other night and he's like "yeah, I barely eat at all." I raise my eyebrows. What? How can that be, I wonder. I push further - "you don't eat?" "Not really, like today all I had was this sandwich, right now, and those wings and some of that salad earlier." And the beer we drank, of course. Maybe he just lives off beer calories?

I, on the other hand, would rather live off cheese calories. Ice cream calories. Sushi calories. MUFFIN calories, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Muffins.

Today, I met all of those objectives. Well, I've not met the cheese calorie objective yet, but that will be done soon. Muffin in the morning. Sushi and wine for lunch (yes, I went wild and ordered a wonderful glass of Mondavi Flume Blanc to go with my sushi, yum!), and I just finished a (small, at least) bowl of ice cream. Plenty of water in between. But, I mean - think about this. Muffin. Coffee. Wine. Sushi - and miso, edamame, salad, salmon. Ice Cream. Soon to be cheese.

Not a light day, to say the least.

Which is part of the reason why I'll run 6+ miles and go swimming for an hour each day. Well, running or swimming. This is why training for the marathon saves me. It's cause I eat so damn much.

It's been a good Friday so far. And...holiday weekend, woooooooo!

grow

The garden at my apartment is just so awesome. Take a gander at these tomatos we harvested - they are so yummy and delicious. M made some wonderful gazpacho out of them the other day in her new food processor (I am officially in love with food processors, by the way). We have peppers, lettuce, a myriad of spices ready to harvest, and a zuchinni and a few eggplants on their way to being ready.

We also harvested the corn. It looked so promising!

And then we tossed it in the pot...

But when we took it out to cool it down and took a bite, our teeth got stuck. The corn had turned to a glue-like consistency. It was such a sad moment. I think we should have picked it much earlier. Oh well - that's what first gardens are for, right? To experiment and make mistakes? Obviously, I'm trying to make myself feel better. ;)

out

Today (sunday) I couldn't bear being inside. I was outside from the time I got up until it got dark and had to go in. A 75 minute run. Drive to Melrose with all the windows down. Walk along Melrose. Drive home with windows open. Bike to park. Read dwell and book. bike back. Bike to store for muffin ingredients. Bike back. Garden. Dark.

And then I made bran muffins and M made zucchini bread with our first (and perhaps only) zuchinni. The zucchini and yellow squash caught a bad case of The Powerdy Mildew. it's sad. I have pictures on my camera. The powdery mildew is the death of squashes. Poor squashes. But this zucchini bread is damn good. So, I will pull out the dead-ish plants and plant new ones. And more peppers. We have two peppers ready to come in soon. YUM.

Anyway. It will be a hard monday, I think, because I'll be inside. But at least I'll have bran muffins for breakfast.

cheese

I ate a melted (american) cheese sandwich for lunch. I have a weird relationship with American Cheese. I both hate and love it. I know it's made from un-natural substances and it's scary and has a texture that is too smooth for its own good. Each of those things should scare me away from it.

BUT, I also love that texture, and even though I'm sure it's fairly chemical in nature and very man-made (gotta love America) it makes my tongue and buds go "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm".

Weird. Anyway. Now I feel kind of grossed out about eating it. But I know I'll crave one sometime soon.

wine

I had a lovely weekend drinking wine with my mom and a nice group of friends - and I came back with 8 bottles. Yikes. At least I got them all discounted - by a lot - otherwise my bank account would be hurting. Well, now I have a ton of tasty wine to drink, wheeee! JM took this pic - notice we are all sitting on color-coordinated chairs. Ha!

blush

Okay - how yummy is this. ***Almost*** ready to be picked. Yummy!

I have all these memories from growing up that pertain to strawberries from the garden. E & I would walk to my house from school during spring, go out to the backyard, and pick fresh strawberries from the garden. Eat them all warm from the sun. Just brush the dirt off - who cares?

That and peas.

Next weekend or next week, I'm going to plant some broccoli and more pepper plants.
